Day Retreat in Nature
We are living in unusual and rapidly changing times. Times like these challenge the status quo and force us to see that nothing is certain. For many of us our hard-wired fight-flight-freeze survival response is triggered, and if we remain in this heightened alert state for a prolonged time, it can affect our physical and mental wellbeing.
So what can help us to navigate these uncertain times?
Nature. Some things are constant and will always be there to help us through tough times.
Spending time in nature reduces stress levels and helps to calm the mind. Rather than feeling lost in anxious, catastrophic thoughts about the future, nature grounds us. It also stimulates new ways of thinking and creativity.
Our affinity with nature goes back to the ‘Biophilia Hypothesis’, advocated by the biologist E.O. Wilson, namely, that humans have a hard-wired disposition to connect with the natural world.
When we spend time in nature we become more attuned to how we are feeling - an embodied sensory experience in which we can find more creative solutions to our current challenges.
This Day Retreat offers you an opportunity to remember our interconnectedness with all life, helps you connect to something bigger than yourself, fostering a deeper, kinder connection with yourself, others and the world; increasing a sense of wellbeing.
This day in nature away from your daily routine will allow you time to relax, reflect and restore in a facilitated and safe way while walking with like-minded people in the stunning Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty (south west of London).
We will walk in silence for some of the time, reflect in pairs and have moments of sharing with the whole group.
The walk is 7.5 miles and involves gentle up and downhill walking. The lunch break will take place at the National Trust site Polesden Lacey which has a cafe and cafeteria serving cold and hot food. Alternatively, do bring a packed lunch.
Please also bring snacks and water as needed.
Please make sure you are physically able to attend this walk and aware that you join this walk at your own risk.
Meeting point: Waterloo Railway Station 8.30 am. Return to London 5/6 pm. Further details upon booking.
